Ear cuffs are the easiest way to get a pierced look without a piercing - and if you've never worn one, the first question is always the same: how does it stay on? We've been handcrafting ear cuffs since 1982, and we fit thousands of first-timers at fairs every year. Here's everything they ask us.
How does an ear cuff go on?
- Find the thinnest edge of your ear cartilage - that's where the cuff slides on easiest.
- Slip the cuff onto the edge of your ear at that thin spot.
- Slide it into position and seat it gently. It should feel snug but comfortable - you'll forget it's there.
Watch it done in under a minute:
Where does each style sit?
Mid ear cuffs hug the center (conch) of your ear - the classic look. High cartilage cuffs sit up on the helix, like a cartilage piercing without the needle. Ear wraps curve along the edge of the ear for a more dramatic look, and ear sprays decorate the ear from top to bottom. For cartilage styles, here's the fitting video:
Does it hurt?
No - there's no piercing and no pressure clamp. A well-fitted cuff rests on the ear the way glasses rest on your nose. Our cuffs are handcrafted in sterling silver, 14k gold filled, rose gold, and two tone - and both sterling silver and gold filled are considered hypoallergenic.
Will it fall off?
A properly seated cuff stays put through a normal day. If yours feels loose, reseat it at the thinnest part of the ear and slide it back into position - the fitting videos above show the motion. Every Chapman cuff arrives in a gift box with fitting and care instructions.
Do I need to know my size?
No sizing needed - ear cuffs adjust to fit nearly everyone. (Rings and anklets are a different story: see our sizing guide.)
